Miracles…Past, Present or Always – June 5, 2017

Written by, Jo Ann Carpenter.

In the New Testament, we read of the many miracles Jesus performed while he walked this earth. Many had the privilege to receive those miracles personally, some were witnesses, and others wrote documentation of what they saw.

Miracles were something that only happened a long time ago…or are they? The following is an account of the Meal Ministry service last week.

The other evening during the Meal Ministry we were reading in Matthew where Jesus healed the two demon-possessed men, calms a storm and heals a paralytic. After reading about these miracles of Jesus, I spoke about how Jesus is alive, well and walking with us today. And yes. He is still performing miracles as He works in our lives each and every day!

Many of our dinner guests were glancing around the room to see if anyone was agreeing with me. So I continued… Let’s take a look in this room, each one of us is a miracle of God, perfectly created in His image, from the elderly to the newborn in the stroller. Still more looks but this time at me. Now I had their attention!

Okay, let’s make this simple, I thought. So I continued by telling them that they are sitting in a miracle! Now, they just had to think I was crazy! But that’s ok  Most of them knew the story of how we remodeled the building and moved in, but did they ever think it was a miracle from God?

Did they think that on our own we could have moved us into this renovated building 6 years ago? Did they think on my own I was able to prepare and purchase all the food for the meal ministry as our numbers were growing? No, only through the work of God in our lives were we able to accomplish such things. Are those miracles? I believe they are!

Then I started to talk about our new building and how God has been working, performing miracles, again right before our eyes! I reminded them we were praying for the presentation we made to the foundations to help fund the new building, the city to donate us property, and for donors to begin making pledges. For all of those things to happen, to the extent they have happened, God is performing miracles. If we look past any of these events we are looking past the mighty power of God.

His blessings are miracles! Jesus is alive and working in our lives each and every day. We can choose to honor His work and live lives that are pleasing to Him, or we can live apart from Him and ignore all He has to offer.
At Refuge of Hope, we believe God is alive and well and working in our lives daily and yes, performing miracles right in front of us, because of His immense love for us! Look for the blessing in your life. Don’t’ look past the miracles of His great love for you!

I believe, with all my heart, that God loves us and wants to bless us with His miracles, but in His time and within His will. And I will give Him all the honor, praise and glory for each miracle! Written by, Jo Ann Carpenter.
